At first I didn't believe it. The experiment seemed too simple. But the participants found stress relief. Better health. The students even got better grades. What helped them to feel a greater sense of control and meaning in their lives?

The experiment asked participants just one question - one simple task. It's super easy. Anyone can do it.

How could a short, fifteen minute exercise create such a major changes?  Who were these people - and what do they know that you don't?

The new normal isn't very normal. We're all feeling various degrees of burnout. Stress.

A disconnection from success. Yes?

I want to walk you through one question in the experiment - so you can see for yourself. Don't take my word for it. But get ready to conquer stress - it's the first step forward, when you join the Virtually Perfekt community.

The participants in the experiment experienced:

  • Less stress
  • Greater feeling of control in their lives
  • Improved health
  • Better grades (!)
  • Small events changed from hassles into moments of meaning
  • Feeling more in control and more powerful in their lives
  • ..and the benefits persisted for years, even after doing the experiment only once!

Avoid the Biggest Mistake in Working from Home:
 Drop these Two Sentences, Now.

How do you overcome stress and burnout and all the hassles of working from home?

Do you turn to a guru? Voodoo? Yahoo?

What if you knew how to access strategies that work, no matter where you're working? You would understand how to be virtually perfekt!

What if success, as Karen says, isn't a location-  it's something that's accessible from anywhere. Even if you are out of work.

Here's how I wrote about success and self confidence in Forbes:

Anyone who has ever played a sport of any kind knows that there’s one way you can’t play the game. You can’t play the game looking at the scoreboard. If you’re running a race, you can’t be looking over your shoulder at the clock - or at the person next to you. Where do you put your attention? Your answer to that question will determine your results. The answer is always: on the goal. Imagine a football player, about to kick a field goal (or a corner kick, if you’re partial to that kind of football). What’s he or she thinking about?

The answer is: the goal. The objective. Not what the coach said last week, or what the fans will do if the team wins, or how lousy it will be if the ball goes the wrong way. None of that matters, if you're going to play to win.

Imagine, in the middle of a big game, where the stakes are high, and the player asks this question, "Who am I?"

Sounds ridiculous, I know. But that's what we do all the time. That's the first question you've got to stop asking yourself, if you want to see things in a new way. If you want to see where the action really is. If you want to play to win.

This three-word question is at the core of imposter syndrome, and lots of other navel-gazing exercises that lead you down a rabbit hole of unproductive introspection.  It's easy to see that the player needs an eye on the ball, right?

But when we're working from home, we've got lots of time for introspection. And asking a lot of questions that don't serve us.

The second question is like the first. "How am I doing?"

Ouch. How's that helping you? Can you see that putting your attention on your identity is the opposite of playing the game?

Self-awareness is the next door neighbor of self-consciousness. You need to remain socially distanced from that kind of questioning. Why? Just as an Olympic ice-skater doesn’t receive her scores until after the routine is finished, why would you stop in the middle of the rink to provide your own self-evaluation? Again, put your attention where it serves you most. What's the perspective that's going to help you to take action, to keep kicking, and skating, and sorting through all of these metaphors? Step forward. Take action.

And get out of your own way. Let's look at who you are and how things work, so that we can do it in the way that really works - for you! A productive way. A way that creates ease, not tension. Focus, not overwhelm. And clarity. And confidence. And more.

Play the game and play full out, all the way: that’s the only way to win.
